Join us to celebrate World Refugee Day, with community banner making, dance workshop, Middle Eastern BBQ, art exhibition and much more!

Join us for an All Day Cultural Celebration on World Refugee Day!

From 10.30am, we’ll be working together to craft Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugees a beautiful new fabric banner! This workshop will continue throughout the day, until the banner is complete. Merch and Jumble in a Box stalls will also be running throughout the day – come and have a browse!

Throughout Refugee Week, (19th-23rd June), Princess Pavillion will be hosting an exhibition of illustrated prints by artist Alice Mawdsley. Alice’s vibrant screen prints transform sketches made during time spent with local refugee families into narratives. Her work chronicles snippets of daily life, families’ reflections since coming to England , and special recipes they hold close.

At 4pm, join Hawiyya Dance Company for a Dabke dance workshop! This all women’s collective explore themes of identity, culture and resistance through Arab folk dance. All ages and genders are welcome at this free workshop.

From 6pm, tuck into a delicious Middle Eastern barbeque, with delicious veggie and vegan options also catered for. No pre-booking required for the barbeque!

At 7.30pm, join us for a exciting fusion of Arab Dabke dance from Hawiyya Dance Company, and Cornish Nos Lowen dancing with live music from Skillywidden. These two traditional dance forms will come together in ways we cannot predict, but it is certain to result in cross-cultural magic!
