Training from the National Churches Trust, experts in church tourism.

About this Event

Our regular tourism training is for everyone involved with churches and chapels.

An informative one hour training session brought to you by The National Churches Trust’s tourism team. Discover the many ways in which your place of worship can benefit from tourism from increasing visitors and raising funds to recruiting volunteers and staging events.

This is the ideal introductory course for anyone involved with churches and chapels wishing to learn more about church tourism.

This session will look at:

  • Why should you welcome visitors to your church or chapel?
  • What is tourism worth?
  • What have we got to offer visitors?
  • Does your church say ‘Welcome’?
  • What are the first impressions – both inside and out?
  • How do we meet and greet visitors?
  • Thinking through some of the risks involved in opening to visitors.

All involved in historic places of worship are invited to attend.

We will present a 45 minute talk, with lots of useful ideas and content and links to follow up later. We’ll then have at least 30 minutes for questions and comments. We’ll also encourage you to share ideas and questions with volunteers from the other churches taking part in the chat.

The presentation (in pdf form) will be available to all attendees afterwards.

Covid19

Covid19 is having a huge impact on both churches and tourism.

We will, of course, consider it in relation to all of the above. We aim to give you some ideas for what you could do now (even if it’s only preparation for later), what visitors will be looking for post-Covid and how to keep potential visitors engaged even when they can’t come in person.

Before you join us…

A key way to ensure visitors can find and enjoy your place of worship is to be included on our church tourism gateway : www.explorechurches.org

Although churches and chapels are closed at present, their role supporting communities is more important than ever, and your virtual presence plays an essential part in that. Find out more about how churches to bring communities together and help them thrive in the National Churches Trust’s House of Good report: www.houseofgood.nationalchurchestrust.org

Add your place of worship to ExploreChurches and (even if it’s already there) make sure your entry is up to date and appealing. When we reopen our doors we can ensure visitors have all the information they need to find, enjoy and feel inspired by your place of worship.

Add your church today.
