Truro Choral Society
Truro Symphony Orchestra

with choirs from Truro School and Truro High School
Conductor: Martin Palmer
Orchestra Leader: Philip Montgomery-Smith

To celebrate their 60th-anniversary season, Truro Choral Society has chosen to celebrate coronations in 2023, the year of the crowning of King Charles III.

This concert begins with Parryโ€™s thrilling โ€œI Was Gladโ€, usually the opening choral work in British coronation ceremonies. The orchestra then performs Vaughan Williamsโ€™ lovely Oboe Concerto where the soloist is ex-Truro School pupil, now professional performer, Ellie Sullivan. Imogen Dowse, a current Truro School student, is the soloist in Elgarโ€™s Cello Concerto. Elgarโ€™s โ€œGive Unto the Lordโ€ ends the first half. Mozartโ€™s fine Coronation Mass is the climax of our concert; its nickname was probably given because of its popularity in Vienna at imperial coronations.
