Pray daily for the needs of all those affected by prisons from October 10 to 16

The Prisons Week theme for 2021 is ‘Journeying from Despair to Hope.’ It is based around Luke 12:24: ‘Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!’ (NIV)

For more than forty years Prisons Week has prepared prayer literature to enable the Christian community, through individuals and churches, to pray for the needs of all those affected by prisons: prisoners and their families, victims of crime and their communities, those working in the criminal justice system and the many people who are involved in caring for those affected by crime on the inside and outside of our prisons.

Prisons Week raises awareness and generates prayer. It motivates volunteers to step forward and give their time and gifts, in prisons and in their own communities. It provides an annual focus and reason for Christians to work together, building capacity and motivation to make a difference for people who are out of sight and often out of mind.

Individual Christians and churches are encouraged to pray each day during Prisons Week. Download the daily themes and prayers.

Growing year by year, Prisons Week currently sees 25 Christian denominations and organisations working together. The organising team includes expert representatives from CTE Member Churches such as the Church of England and the Catholic Church, the Free Churches Group and the Salvation Army. They are joined by prison ministry organisations including Prison Fellowship (A CTE Body in Association), Prison Advice and Care Trust and Caring for Prison Leavers and also specialists from likes of the Bible Society, Mothers’ Union and Youth for Christ.
