Hearts Singing God’s Song: Vocation for Disabled and Neurodivergent People : 3 Feb, ONLINE

February 3, 2024 | 10:30 am 12:30 pm
online

Eachof us is made in the image of God and each of us are fearfully and wonderfully made. And each of us is called to be part of the mission and ministry of the church, regardless of our embodiment and anything that our society might label as disability or difference.

This event is for disabled or neurodivergent people who would like to begin to explore a vocation to lay or ordained ministry in the Church of England.

You will:

· Be welcomed by Richard Atkinson – the Bishop of Bedford and chair of the Committee for the Ministry of and amongst Deaf and Disabled People (CMDDP)

· Hear about neurodivergence and theology from Ann Memmott – a lecturer, trainer and researcher on Autism

· Hear from Haydon Spenceley – Director of Vocations and Formation in Peterborough diocese and a wheelchair user as he shares his vocation story

· Have the opportunity to join a breakout group or reflect on questions you would like to ask.

· Hear from disabled and neurodivergent people in ministry

· Ask questions of all involved in the event

The Church of England has an aspiration to become more diverse so as to reflect more fully the diversity in society. The presence of disabled and neurodivergent people within every ministry and area of the church’s work is essential to making this happen. In this event we want to encourage people who might feel that for some reason their embodiment would be a barrier to ministry, to begin a journey of exploration and discernment. As disabled and neurodivergent people, we bring unique perspectives on faith, spirituality, theology and life into the church and our presence enriches what the church is, for its members and for the world.
