Day with St John’s Gospel : 16 Nov, Truro

November 16, 2023 | 9:30 am 3:30 pm
Epiphany House, Truro TR1 3DR

The primary purpose of this one-day workshop/retreat with John’s gospel, led by Rev Howard Peskett,  is to read the text and to listen to the voice of God. John’s gospel is not well-served by the Revised Common Lectionary. In our Sunday readings we only study 326 of its 879 verses (= 37%). Some of the readings are very itsy-bitsy and nine chapters are entirely omitted (5,6,8,12,13,16,18,19,21).

We will observe the way in which John has carefully structured his story to complement the earlier narratives of Jesus’ life and work. We will enjoy the different stories of Jesus’ meeting different individuals and we shall pay attention to his long speeches, so different from the other gospels. John has set out clearly his purpose in writing, so we will follow his instructions and pay attention to his priorities. And we shall make time for some silence (SILENT is an anagram for LISTEN!).
