Matters related to asylum and immigration continue to be headline news. From a British perspective, some of the Governmentโ€™s immigration and asylum policies include new proposals to send asylum seekers (whose claims had been rejected and who have no further routes of appeal) to the Balkans. While in Ireland, the Government has pledged to lower the costs of accommodating a person seeking asylum by 60 per cent under new rules being brought in, which are linked to part of the process of Ireland signing up to the new European Migration and Asylum pact.

At this meeting we will be hearing updates from:

  • Refugee Week, and how churches, parachurch groups and Christian organisations in Britain and Ireland can get involved in this important annual event in June.
  • Colleagues from the Quaker Asylum and Refugee Network (QARN), a national network of Quakers with a concern about people seeking asylum, refugees and others in need of international protection.
  • The work taking place in parts of England among Iranian refugees and those seeking sanctuary on these shores.
  • A new, exciting interfaith proposal that brings together faith-based organisations and how they can best respond to the challenges faced by those working on immigration and asylum matters.
  • CRNโ€™s administrative and governance matters.
