Join the All Party Parliamentary Group on Faith & Society as we host a briefing session on report Churches, COVID-19 & Communities

You are invited to an online All Party Parliamentary Group on Faith & Society event on Thursday 9 December at 10am.

The APPG are hosting a briefing by Dr Dee Dyas, Director of the Centre for Pilgrimage Studies at the University of York. Dr Dyas and her colleagues produced a report called ‘Churches, COVID-19 and Communities’. It is a joint publication by the University of York, Historic England, the Church of England, the Association of English Cathedrals, the National Churches Trust, and the Historic Religious Buildings Alliance.

The report examined the impact of closing church buildings and restrictions on activities provided or hosted by churches on the lives and wellbeing of individuals and communities. It also looked at how churches were able to respond creatively to COVID-19 challenges and adapt to meet new circumstances and needs.

The report and subsequent work have looked at four central questions:

  • What do COVID-hit communities need most?
  • What have churches achieved thus far?
  • How can churches help communities through recovery?
  • What support will churches need?

Please join us to hear from Professor Dyas and colleagues as well as a panel of parliamentarians on how COVID-19 has affected churches and communities, and how their capacity to support and provide for local communities can be maintained during the COVID-recovery.
