Once again the seasons are turning and as Autumn begins, we have a fresh line-up of webinars for you. 
For the time being, webinars will be free for members and non-members (apart from the AGM), but if you would like to make a donation, however small, it would be gratefully received. OCTOBER 17th, 2 – 3.30pmJoin Russell Ball of Arbo EuroConsulting Ltd for a fascinating talk on ancient yews. The talk  will cover best-practice management of these precious trees with a few mis-management myths thrown in. Russell is a Chartered biologist with a Botany degree and post-graduate diploma in Landscape Management.  Currently he is a consulting arborist and chair & founder of the registered charity Fund4Trees. OCTOBER 24th, 2 – 3.30pmSeeking Sanctuary – conserving amphibians and reptiles in burial grounds
A webinar on reptiles and amphibians in burial grounds from Dr Angela Julian from Amphibian and Reptile Groups of UK (ARG UK). Angela is Coordinator of the network of volunteer amphibian and reptile groups who aim to conserve our UK-native amphibians and reptiles. The presentation will introduce our widespread amphibians and reptiles, and discuss how we can best nurture and conserve them in burial grounds through sympathetic management, working in partnership with land managers, maintenance contractors and local communities. Tim Viney from Atlantic Geomatics (AG Intl) will provide an overview of the Church of England National Burial Grounds Survey project and will discuss why we need good maps of burial grounds, how they are created and integrated with records and talk about some of the additional benefits and how to keep the map up-to-date.Tim, a Chartered Surveyor, established AG Intl Ltd in 2022 having returned to the UK after working overseas for more than 20 years. CfGA AGM and talk – “Natural Progression – Time to Restore and Rebuild” from Chris Baines
Join us for a talk from Chris Baines, one of our Patrons, following the AGM. As an environmental campaigner, Chris Baines has spent 50 years promoting the idea of working WITH nature, and using our gardens, burial grounds, parks and other small green spaces to begin restoring wildlife habitats. In this illustrated talk Chris will take that message, and show how it can now be rolled out across the wider landscape, from remote rural countryside, through urban Britain and on into our coastal waters. Planning, publicising & running guided walks in your burial groundPublic Engagement Manager Janine Marriott from Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust in Bristol will walk you through the process of encouraging people to join you for a guided walk at your site. She will talk you through how to create the tour, how to market it, and the practicalities of running a tour. You will leave the talk with lots of ideas and helpful hints on the process and you will be running your own tours in no time at all. Finding Folklore in Burial Grounds
Join Claire Slack for an exploration of the folklore you might find in your local burial grounds. In this talk, we’ll explore historic and contemporary mourning traditions, the symbolism behind the carvings on headstones and the folklore of the plants and trees that you might find in burial grounds across Britain. This talk will mostly focus on the Victorian burial ground, drawing on Claire’s knowledge of garden cemeteries but will include earlier examples of different types of burial grounds from the medieval period onwards.
