Here in the Southwest, the proportion of people over 65 continues to increase. The State of Ageing 2022, a comprehensive review of public data by the Centre for Ageing Better, highlighted people’s worsening experiences of growing older in England and the challenges for many in having and a healthy and financially secure later life.

All are welcome to come to a joint Caritas Diocese of Plymouth/SVP event to explore the theme of an ageing society and how we are called to respond.  Ageing is often viewed negatively.  Pope Francis has decried a culture that ‘throws away’ the elderly. He reminds us that “Their presence in families and communities, it is a precious one, for it reminds us that we share the same heritage and are part of a people committed to preserving its roots.” “From the elderly we received the gift of belonging to God’s holy people.  The Church, as well as society, needs them, for they entrust to the present the past that is needed to build the future.”   All are welcome to join us for this day of prayer, discussion and reflection. Please register here or email caritas@prcdtr.org.uk.
