Here in the Southwest, the proportion of people over 65 continues to increase. The State of Ageing 2022, a comprehensive review of public data by the Centre for Ageing Better, highlighted peopleโ€™s worsening experiences of growing older in England and the challenges for many in having and a healthy and financially secure later life.

All are welcome to come to a joint Caritas Diocese of Plymouth/SVP event to explore the theme of an ageing society and how we are called to respond.ย  Ageing is often viewed negatively. ย Pope Francis has decried a culture that โ€˜throws awayโ€™ the elderly. He reminds us that “Their presence in families and communities, it is a precious one, for it reminds us that we share the same heritage and are part of a people committed to preserving its roots.”ย “From the elderly we received the gift of belonging to Godโ€™s holy people.ย  The Church, as well as society, needs them, for they entrust to the present the past that is needed to build the future.โ€ ย  All are welcome to join us for this day of prayer, discussion and reflection.
