Do you love working with people and championing inclusion and diversity? We have an exciting opportunity for 5 Refugee and Asylum Seeker Outreach and Support Workers to join the dynamic and passionate Resilient Communities team in the Council on three-year fixed term contracts. We are looking for person-centred and tenacious workers to support individuals of any nationality, including Ukrainians, Afghans and Syrians, who may be at risk or are vulnerable following their journey to the UK and Cornwall.

The Team

The new Refugee and Asylum Seeker Outreach and Support Team will be part of Community Safety within the Resilient Communities team. We are a creative and hardworking team from a range of backgrounds who look out for each other, value difference and prioritise wellbeing.

The Role

Refugee and Asylum Seeker Outreach and Support Workers will assess individuals’ needs and provide flexible, tailored one-to-one support. This will involve building therapeutic relationships with individuals based on trust, collaboration and equality. You will work with a range of statutory, community and independent sector partners taking a collaborative multi-disciplinary approach to ensure the needs of individuals are met.

Through openness, cultural sensitivity and valuing diversity, the team will work to raise the profile of refugees and asylum seekers in local communities, to create sustained change in promoting inclusion and reducing intolerance and hate crime.

Proficiency in Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic or any other language is desirable but not essential.

Of the 5 workers we are looking to employ a maximum of 2 workers with a health and wellbeing focus. These 2 workers will be managed day to day by the Refugee and Asylum Seeker Outreach and Support Team Leader but will also have learning and development support from a Public Health Practitioner.
