The Tools Shed Project

Tidying up your garden shed this summer?

Come across any old or broken garden hand tools and wondering what to do with them?

Why not consider the Garden Tools Repair and Recycling Project run by the Conservation Foundation.

Unwanted garden hand tools can now be taken to designated collection points at four Household Waste & Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Cornwall in addition to the Eden Project.

There are two drop-off points in West Cornwall – one at United Downs and the other at the Falmouth/Penryn site which is just off the A394 between Mabe Burnthouse and Longdowns.

Look out for the tool cages (see below) or ask one of the Suez site team for directions.

Full list of collection points in Cornwall:

  • Eden Project Waste & Recycling Centre, Bodelva, Par PL24 2SG
  • SUEZ Connon Bridge Household Waste & Recycling Centre, East Taphouse, Liskeard PL14 4NP
  • SUEZ Falmouth/Penryn Household Waste & Recycling Centre, Carveth Farm, Treliever Road, Mabe Burnthouse, Penryn TR10 9DH
  • SUEZ United Downs Household Waste & Recycling Centre, United Downs, St Day, Redruth TR16 5HU
  • SUEZ Launceston Household Waste & Recycling Centre, Bangors Road, Pennygillam Industrial Estate, Launceston PL15 7PH

Forks, spades, hoes, trowels and garden shears are all accepted, but no power tools.

Collected tools are then transferred to the workshops at HMP Dartmoor for repair and refurbishment and used to make up tool kits which are then made available free to schools and community groups.

Application for tool kits always welcome – see the national website for details of how to apply, and other information https://conservationfoundation.co.uk/projects/tools/

This Project is a wonderful example of repair and reuse, diverting valuable resources from going to waste, and contributing to the circular social economy.

N.B. These extra drop-off points in Cornwall are part of a pilot roll-out with Bude and Saltash HWRCs likely to be included in the near future, so please support if you can and help spread the word.
