The Oasis Centre, based in shop front premises in St Columb Major, Cornwall UK, is a registered charity and a voluntary community organisation working in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations in the area. The Oasis Centre is managed by a group of local people, governed by a Constitution. The Centre was established in 2008 and the Constitution states that its purpose is to relieve persons resident in the parishes of St. Columb, St. Ervan, St. Eval, St. Mawgan (known as the Lann Pydar Benefice) and surrounding areas who are in a condition of need, hardship, distress, ill-health, disability or other disadvantage.
The Wellbeing Cafe takes place each Thursday morning from 10:00am to 12 noon in the Columba Centre in St Columb. The Wellbeing Cafe provides entertainment and social activities as well as a helping hand to find support when needed from outside agencies. It is a place to meet others, relax, share experiences over a cup of tea or coffee. It is for everyone of any age, whether you are new to the area, feeling lonely, tired or fed up or just in need of some company. A cosy and warm atmosphere which is safe, welcoming and friendly. There are light refreshments, board games, arts and crafts, people to talk to and occasional speakers and entertainment. We have monthly outings to places chosen by our members.
Do you feel as well as you would like to? If you are interested, there is a Health Trainer who comes along regularly to help with any weight problems and offers suggestions about diet, fitness and general health and wellbeing. Come along and join us Any Thursday. It’s only £1 for the whole morning including drinks and most activities.
Keep Your Sparkle Going
Keep Your Sparkle Going provides a friendly social meeting place for those with all forms of memory problems, and their families and friends who would welcome a break in their daily lives, and a chance to go out and enjoy themselves. Our team of volunteers offer an afternoon of friendship and support, enhanced with social activities and refreshments. The relaxed and informal atmosphere allows those having memory difficulties with opportunities to share reminiscences and enjoy the afternoon with music, songs, games, creative arts and other activities.
Carers can relax too, knowing that they are in a place of understanding and care, able to exchange experiences with other carers and our volunteers, and to obtain further professional advice if needed. We hope that those attending will help us create a programme with activities that are appropriate for everyone.
