Inspiring Women Network works across Cornwall to support women and their families to thrive. We are currently looking for support in connecting with relevant families who would benefit from our youth empowerment programme, “Still I Rise” — an initiative dedicated to supporting and empowering young people of colour across Cornwall.

This FREE six-week programme is designed to equip pupils with tools for resilience, leadership, and personal growth. These sessions will provide a safe, inclusive space for participants to explore their identity, navigate racial experiences, and connect with peers who share similar stories. The programme has been developed with the invaluable support of Caroline Gayle-Dunne, a counselling psychotherapist and trauma-informed mental health practitioner. Caroline has extensive experience in community development, challenging inequalities, and promoting inclusivity. She has played a crucial role in designing the sessions to ensure they are impactful, age-appropriate, and responsive to the needs of young people in our community.

Who is it for? The programme is specifically aimed at young people of colour aged 10 – 18 (divided into two age groups: 10-13 and 14-18), and we would love your support in reaching out to pupils and families in who could benefit from this opportunity. Whilst the focus of our organisation is working with women, this programme is aimed at supporting families and is therefore for both male and female young people.

When and Where? We are looking for young people to sign up to our next cohort at the beginning of May. We have the first 3 hour session programmed for the 1st weekend in May are somewhat flexible with days (Sat/Sun) and timings (AM / PM), depending on the needs of the group. We can hold the sessions in person in Truro or online.

Why this matters: This project goes beyond workshops—it’s about creating a lasting impact. It allows pupils to build confidence, embrace their cultural identity, and develop skills to help them thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world. We are confident that if a young person from your school attends this programme it will have a positive impact on their life experiences going forward.

Can you help us reach the relevant families and young people via your networks? We would be incredibly grateful if your organisation could help us share this opportunity with relevant young people and families so that we can have as much impact as possible. You can do this by:

  • Including information about our project in your newsletters or communications with communities / families / young people
  • Sharing our event flyer or social media posts on your pages
  • Sharing with relevant colleagues in the fields of education, youth, culture etc.
  • Mentioning the programme during meetings or events
  • Print a poster to share in your centre or let us know if you think it would be a good idea to send you some flyers in the post
  • Connecting personally with families of colour in your networks and signposting families to IWN

Please do let us know if you do any of the above as this really helps with us monitoring our reach in the community. Attached to this email are social media posts and flyers in both JPEG and PDF for printing.
