Restorative Approaches to tackling Racism, how do they support our practice?

This is a one-day online workshop for experienced educators, activists, trainers and practitioners to develop their restorative practice in response to the harm caused by racism. Numbers will be limited to a maximum of twelve participants to ensure depth of experience and shared learning.

This event will be broadly based on the principles discussed in the online article published by the UK Restorative Justice Council Zero Tolerance and Tackling Racism Restoratively in UK Education and the twitter conversation held on 8th November 2020 between RJ Working and Restorative_Ed.

Since 2017, RJ Working has focused on restorative approaches to ‘harms against identity’ including the harm caused by racism. Three of our team will provide a strong framework for learning and share experience of working with young people to address the harm caused by racism.  We will consider some resources and how they might be adapted to serve communities in different areas. The harm caused by racism is not sector-specific and restorative practitioners working in criminal justice and community settings are welcome to participate.

We are seeking to develop shared knowledge and learning about the integration of active anti-racism in the field of Restorative Practice. We therefore expect participants to be at an intermediate or advanced level of practice and the contribution to continuous professional development will be interactive.
