Transformation Cornwall, the Independent Food Aid Network (IFAN), the Trussell Trust and Cornwall Council will be hosting an in-person event in St Austell during the morning of Thursday the 8th of June. The discussion forum is for frontline organisations and support teams working across Cornwall and will focus on how people facing financial hardship can access cash first or income-focused support.

This session follows evidence-gathering in November 2021 and a review of Cornwall Council’s Local Welfare Assistance Scheme (LWAS) by frontline organisations supporting people facing financial hardship. This appraisal helped feed into recent changes to Cornwall Council’s Discretionary Financial Assistance policy. Participants will hear from Cornwall Council representatives about these changes and will be able to contribute thoughts and feedback on how the system works and reaches people struggling to afford essentials.

The discussion will focus on three questions:
What financial support do you signpost to or access for people in need? What works well in terms of accessing crisis and care grants and other financial support from the council? How can the process be improved?
10:00 – 12:00: Discussion Forum

12:00 – 13:00: Time for networking. Lunch will be provided.

Any questions, or if you would like to be part of the conversation but are unable to join on that date, please get in touch at admin@foodaidnetwork.org.uk.
