Christians across England are encouraged to pray for all those affected by crime and imprisonment – 8 to 14 October.
7 September 2023
For nearly 50 years, Prisons Week has encouraged Christians everywhere to pray for prisoners and their families, victims of crime, their communities and those working or volunteering in the criminal justice system. Prisons Week is a truly ecumenical venture, both CTBI and CTE are sponsoring bodies as are a number of CTEโs member churches including the Free Churches Group, The Salvation Army, Assemblies of God and Catholic Bishopsโ Conference of England and Wales.
This year Prisonโs Week runs between the 8 and 14 October and everyone is encouraged to join together in prayer. The theme this year is โLook Upโ, taken from Psalm 19 v 1, which encourages us by saying โThe heavens declare the glory of God, so look upโ, inspiring hope when all seems lost. As well as providing dedicated prayers for each day written by those connected with the justice system from across the different Christian traditions there are a number of Prisons Week events that are open to all.
Events are happening in Liverpool, Cardiff and London and in other parts of the country bringing people together to pray and details of these events will shortly be listed on the website.
Do join others in prayer each day during Prisons Week but also ask yourself if there is one thing that you as an individual, or as an ecumenical group, can do to support Prisons Week this year.
