How switching banks can make a difference.

Webinar: Thursday, 16 May 2024, 10:30-11.30am.

We would like to invite you to attend a webinar to discuss the potential of religious organisations to change the UK banking scene for the better. Unfortunately, many of the values we hold dear are undermined by those we trust to look after our money. The “Big 5” UK banks – Barclays, HSBC, Santander, NatWest and Lloyds – which many of us use for our banking services, have collectively pumped billions into fossil fuels, despite the clear danger this presents to life on earth. Religious organisations could play a crucial role in stopping this.

Historically, UK churches have been a major part of social movements. By acting together, religious organisations can send a key message to the “Big 5” that financing the new fossil fuels driving the climate crisis is unacceptable. In this webinar, we will briefly explain the issue before shining a light on the fantastic work already going on from the JustMoney Movement and The Big Bank Switch. We will also discuss how we can individually and collectively take action.

We believe that UK churches can play a pivotal role in pressuring the banks to protect our future. Already we’ve seen organisations like Greenbelt Festival leave their banking provider due to their fossil fuel financing, and Sheffield Cathedral pledge to move away from Barclays. And they’re not alone in the movement driving change. 25 leading UK universities are calling for a fossil free provider and major charities Oxfam and Christian Aid have ditched their oily banks.

We’d love to see you there and explore how together we can make our money matter.
