251111 faith rooted community

Find below a message from Revd Dr Dan Haylett, District Chair, for a deeper look into what this means for us:

So much of our outreach work is about the seemingly small moments of engagement in the places we live and work, and seeing Kingdom transformation happen when relationships are built and nurtured.  It can all start with a conversation – and our South West Peninsula Methodist District sees the significance of this through our project “Transforming Conversation”.

Being Methodist has always been about this desire to see and name the challenges of “the world as it is”, whilst working, hoping and praying towards “the world as it should be”.  The Methodist Church is seeking to resource what is happening through a focus on:

Faith-Rooted Community Organising: enabling us to turn hopes and vision into action for change and transformation, both within our churches and in our wider community.

Faith-rooted Community Organising (FRCO) is a way of working, informed and guided by our faith, that focuses on building relationships, and gathering people together, to use their collective power to act for justice, change and transformation.

FRCO is not a new approach for Methodism, but does involve making a decision to do things differently. Through FRCO, we are rediscovering many of the ways in which early Methodism grew, flourished and transformed lives. FRCO is rooted in and shaped by the same theological principles that we have adopted in A Justice-seeking Church alongside the core values of Church at the Margins.

To support this in our District, Transforming Conversation are hosting a day for lay and ordained staff to learn more about Faith Rooted Community Organising and to imagine how these tools and resources might be used for where you live and serve. Please do make the most of the day, come along and invite others involved in your church or circuit.

With every blessing

Dan
