[250219] A Community Conversation about Food : 19 Feb, ONLINE

February 19, 2025 | 7:00 pm
online

The Food Project encourages Christians to think more biblically about food. This means everything from our LOAF principles (Local, Organic, Animal-friendly and Fairly Traded), to attitudes towards fasting, saying grace, community veg growing, going plant-based, sharing with the needy, and the affordability of LOAF foods in a cost-of-living crisis. It could also encompass views on some novel technologies such as lab-grown meats and genetic modification.
It’s such a huge subject that in this session we plan to ask YOU to come up with ideas on what you’d like discussed, solutions to barriers to change, and projects/initiatives you’d like to start or support.  You don’t have to come armed with a “great idea” – we’ll work in small groups, and you can join in on whichever subject you want to discuss. You can just listen, or comment, or question if that’s what works best for you. But what we’re really hoping is that some of you’ll want to lead one of those discussions on an idea you have: if that’s you, please email Cat, the Food Project Officer, on catjenkins@greenchristian.org.uk in advance. If we get lots of “pitches” we’ll choose the ones that get discussed on a first-come-first-served basis. We’ll run this Community Conversation as an “Open Space” event, which is a first for Green Christian (though not for two of the facilitators). It’s both scary and exhilarating, because the possible outcomes can be unexpected – there’s so much creativity and experience in our membership that we can’t be sure WHAT you’ll come up with! All we do ask is that you come with open minds, focusing on solutions and not just problems, and a willingness to discuss ideas with those who come up with them.  It’ll be exciting, trust me! Please register below. Don’t forget to do so, so that Cat can send you some information about how the hour-and-a-bit will be structured in advance.
