Epiphany House, once home to the Sisters of the Community of Epiphany, has long been a beacon of spiritual dedication and shared community life.
On the 6th of January 2025, during the Feast of the Epiphany Service in the house chapel, the Rt Rev Bishop Hugh Nelson welcomed us into a new chapter for Epiphany House through the commissioning of a reimagined Community of the Epiphany, a new monastic community for Cornwall.
The charism of the Community of the Epiphany is summed up as follows: We are an ecumenical Christian community in Cornwall who dedicate ourselves to prayer and to service. In 2025, a number of explorers will take on a probationary rule of life, to be reviewed at the year’s end. This year of discernment, exploration, and commitment will help uncover the community’s unique callings.
The community will be led by the Rev Dave Wheeler as the prior, the Rev Judith Wheatley as the sub-prior, and Alan Wallace as the chancellor. The Rt Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover, and the Rev Ian Hoskins will act as visitors to the community.
The commissioning of the community coincides with the launch of a new rhythm of prayer for Epiphany House. Starting from the 7th of January 2025, there will be daily morning prayer held in the chapel at 10:00AM, to which all are warmly invited to attend. A short 10-minute silence will also be observed at lunch time.
Alan Wallace CEO shares: “As we embark on this new chapter, the commissioning of the reimagined Community of the Epiphany represents a deepening of our commitment to prayer, service, and community life here in Cornwall. This new monastic community will be a space for discernment, exploration, and dedication to God’s calling, and we look forward to seeing how it will grow and shape the future of Epiphany House. I invite you all to join us in this journey of prayer and service, beginning with our daily rhythms of prayer that will bring us together as a community.”
