Emmaus Cornwall is a small charity with big ambitions and we need help from willing and committed volunteers to deliver our priorities and to make a practical difference to the lives of those sleeping on our streets, sofa surfing or who otherwise have nowhere to call home. All volunteers are part of a dedicated team made up of people passionate about starting the first Emmaus community in Cornwall and will receive guidance from our trustees.

Emmaus is seeking several committed volunteers, each for 3-5 hours per week, working from home with occasional attendance at events or to visit partners organisations. Closing date for all applications is 31 March.

For all posts,  desirable skills for applicants are:

  • Active social media presence
  • Interest in and commitment to ending homelessness in Cornwall
  • Active in the community/business

Business Enterprise Development Volunteer

The Emmaus Cornwall Business Enterprise & Management committee is responsible for developing new social enterprise businesses at various locations, including a new residential community to be launched in Cornwall in 2021/2.

Purpose of role: To be an active member of the BE&M Committee and specifically to assist in the business development of horticulture output, woodland enterprise products and basic wooden furniture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop all proposed business enterprises being researched, planned and budgeted.
  • Collate budgets for various planned business enterprises
  • Feed into Business Enterprise proposal, feasibility analysis and budget creation for the planning of fully sustainable businesses and to aid the fundraising team.
  • Assist with Budgets and business rationale content of proposals contribute suggestions for additional concepts
  • Attend bi-weekly BE&M Committee meetings (on Zoom) and other relevant meetings and site visits to our enterprise locations.
  • Help with other BE&M initiatives as requested

Working with: BE&M committee members; Project Manager; external consultants

Reporting to: BE&M Committee Chair

Place of work: Home, with onsite and retail visits when and where required and possible

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

  • Experience of business planning, feasibility analysis, and budgeting
  • Start-up social enterprise experience desirable
  • Knowledge of enterprise funding and National/EU funding landscape interest in permaculture and eco/sustainable practices

Community Fundraising Volunteer

The Community Fundraising Volunteer will be an active member of the Fundraising, Communications and Engagement (FACE) Committee and will work to specifically develop a community fundraising stream.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of a community fundraising plan to include e.g. virtual events, crowdfunding, challenges, research and recommend relevant technology/giving platforms e.g text donate campaigns
  • Contributing suggestions for additional fundraising, engagement and communications events and initiatives
  • Attending monthly FACE Committee meetings (on Zoom) and other relevant meetings and events
  • Helping to organise, promote, communicate and follow-up events (online and face-to-face)
  • Helping recruit supporters and volunteers
  • Helping with other FACE initiatives as requested

Working with: FACE Membership member; Project Manager; FACE Committee; EUK Marketing & PR

Reporting to: FACE Committee Chair

Place of volunteer work: Home, with attendance at events when and where possible

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

  • Experience of organising successful community fundraising events both physical and digital
  • Knowledge of fundraising platforms e.g. JustGiving, LocalGiving, Crowdfunder etc
  • Knowledge of fundraising code of practice

Legacy Giving Volunteer

The Legacy Giving Volunteer will be an active member of the Fundraising, Communications and Engagement (FACE) Committee and specifically to develop a legacy fundraising stream

Responsibilities:

  • Developing a legacy fundraising plan to include e.g. engagement with professional advisors, direct marketing campaign, free will week to raise funds and increase awareness and engagement
  • Contribute suggestions for additional fundraising, engagement and communications events and initiatives
  • Attend monthly FACE Committee meetings (on Zoom) and other relevant meetings and events
  • Help to organise, promote, communicate and follow-up events (online and face-to-face)
  • Help recruit supporters and volunteers
  • Help with other FACE initiatives as requested

Working with: FACE Membership member; Project Manager; FACE Committee; EUK Marketing & PR

Reporting to: FACE Committee Chair

Place of volunteer work: Home, with attendance at events when and where possible

Market Research Volunteer

The Market Research volunteer will be an active member of the BE&M Committee and specifically to research the market for horticulture output, woodland enterprise products and simple wooden furniture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a database of information for competitors, partners and other routes to market for organic, permaculture crops, woodland enterprises and simple wooden furniture in Cornwall and online where relevant.
  • Feed into Business Enterprise proposals, feasibility studies, and budget creation to be used for the planning of fully sustainable businesses and to aid the fundraising team
  • Contribute suggestions for additional concepts
  • Attend bi-weekly BE&M Committee meetings (on Zoom) and other relevant meetings and site visits to our enterprise locations.
  • Help to contact identified short list of retail outlets and partners and set up agreements (online and face-to-face)
  • Help with other BE&M initiatives as requested

Reporting to: BE&M Committee Chair

Skills, knowledge and experience required:

  • Experience of researching and organising a database of information to share
  • Experience and knowledge of market research methods (surveys, interviews, quantitative and market trend analysis, user journey/customer segmentation)
  • Interest in permaculture and eco sustainable practices
  • Knowledge of Cornwall’s seasonal business/enterprise activities
