The Christian Police Association (CPA) in Devon and Cornwall seek your support

fi cpa

The Branch Leader of the Christian Police Association (CPA) in Devon and Cornwall seeks your support and that of your church /ministry for the work of the local police. He says:

In Matthew 6 v10 Jesus himself called us all, as Christians, to pray that his Kingdom would come….. ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. We do not believe that his kingdom is about violence, dishonesty, injustice, hatred, drug abuse, fear, intimidation or deceit. These are the very things your local police are seeking to eradicate within our communities. So we would ask you to pray for us and work with us to achieve this.

In the Devon and Cornwall force area we have more than 140 supporters of CPA who have a strong desire to see God’s Kingdom realised both in the police service and in the communities we serve. However, I do not believe God ever meant us to achieve this on our own. We sense God’s hand in raising up his church to help transform our area and our heart is for you to be part of this movement.

There are hundreds of churches across the Force area with many thousands of Christians who, with God’s help, can make a dramatic impact. We would ask that you prayerfully consider, with your teams / congregation, some of the following ways in which God may be leading you.

We would encourage you to pray regularly about issues of crime, disorder and other community issues and for those involved in the criminal justice system working with victims and offenders. In particular we encourage you to consider linking with other churches locally to pray as we believe God blesses unity and there is real strength in praying together for our communities and the individuals within them. Behind every crime is an individual within whom the evil one is at work. So we need to understand that this is a spiritual battle and prayer will make a huge difference in breaking the strongholds of drug addiction, hatred, greed and dishonesty, seeing lives transformed as well as helping the police to be more effective in their work. We have seen evidence of this both locally and nationally.

We encourage you to find out about your local policing issues and problems within the community and to pray into those situations. You can do this by contacting your local Police Commander and asking him/her to provide you with regular information so that you can pray and act. You can find out who your local commander is by ringing the Force Enquiry Centre on 101 or by visiting www.devon-cornwall.police.uk

Why not link with other church leaders and ask to meet with the local police commander or your neighbourhood policing team to pray for them and ask how local Christians might support their work. This would be a powerful witness in an environment where the level of ‘critical scrutiny’ can be very demoralising.
