The climate crisis isn’t something waiting on the horizon—it’s here. Across the world, people are losing homes, crops, and even lives to floods, droughts, and unbearable heat. In the UK, many are struggling with the basics—like whether to heat their homes or put food on the table. Quakers in Britain are urging that our response to all this must start with justice. The painful truth, they remind us, is that those who’ve done least to cause the problem are often paying the highest price.
As the world heads toward COP30 in Belém, Brazil, Quakers are focusing on what really matters: cutting emissions, helping communities adapt, and fairly compensating those suffering irreversible loss and damage. They see COP30 as a crucial chance for world leaders to act on promises and take seriously the voices of Indigenous peoples and those on the frontlines of the crisis.
But this isn’t just about governments—it’s about all of us. The Quaker message is one of shared responsibility and hope. Even small acts—talking to friends, reaching out to politicians, supporting those hit hardest, or simply staying engaged—can ripple outwards. The call is clear: the planet is changing fast, but together, with care and courage, we can still make a difference.
