A prayer from the Churches Together Forum written by the Revd Claude Halm, ecumenical lead for Churches Together in Essex and East London: |
Gracious God, you have woven us together, forming one body from diverse parts. Though we differ, we remain united in Christ. Help us celebrate the beauty of diversity by recognising Your image in every person. Fill us with patience, kindness, and understanding as we journey in peace and purpose. As your word reminds us, there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, for all are one in Christ Jesus.* May our unity reflect your love. In Jesusโ name, Amen. * from Galatians 3:28. |

A Prayer for Earth Hour (22 Mar, 8.30-9.30pm)
God of the powerless, we choose to be without power.
May this choice permeate our lives.
God of gentleness, we choose to walk gently on this earth.
May this choice permeate our lives.
God of all creation, we choose to be in solidarity with all creatures on our planet.
May this choice permeate our lives.
May this simple gesture of turning out our lights be a moment of inspiration for ourselves, for ourcommunity, and for our world.
May we leave this place empowered to live into this hour. May we continue to live simply and walk gently on this earth. And now let us go and live the message we dare to proclaim.
Amen.

A prayer from Christian Aid:
Lord, make me a channel of disturbance.
Where there is apathy, let me provoke; Where there is compliance, let me bring questioning. Where there is silence, may I be a voice.
Where there is too much comfort and too little action, grant disruption. Where there are doors closed and hearts locked, Grant the willingness to listen.
When laws dictate and pain is overlookedโฆ When tradition speaks louder than needโฆ Grant that I may seek rather to do justice than to talk about it; Disturb us, O Lord. To be with, as well as for, the alienated; To love the unlovable as well as the lovely;
Lord, make me a channel of disturbance.

A Prayer for the National COVID-19 Day of Reflection, 9th March 2025
Loving God,
You hold all our times in your hands: our past, our present, our future.
Be close to us now as we remember the Covid pandemic, as we think about all that has changed, and help us to trust that you are always with us.
Be close to us as we remember those who have died; especially as we think of someone we loved and knew, but see no longer, whether family, friend, colleague or neighbour. Comfort us with your presence.
You place us in families and communities, and we give you thanks for all those around us who serve us and help us in so many ways. Give wisdom to community leaders, to our schools, hospitals, care homes and other agencies who make a difference to our lives.
Show us how to reach out to others with kindness and care,
so that hope shines out in every heart and home,
Amen.
