A Prayer for Ukraine for Passion Sunday, 3 April

God of all peoples and nations,
Who created all things alive and breathing,
United and whole,
Show us the way of peace that is your overwhelming presence.
We hold before you the peoples of Ukraine and Russia,
Every child and every adult.
We long for the time
When weapons of war are beaten into ploughshares
When nations no longer lift up sword against nation.
We cry out to you for peace;
Protect those who only desire and deserve to live in security and safety
Comfort those who fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones
Be with those who are bereaved.
Change the hearts of those set on violence and aggression
And fill leaders with the wisdom that leads to peace.
Kindle again in us a love of our neighbour,
And a passion for justice to prevail
and a renewed recognition that we all play a part in peace.
Creator of all hear our prayer
And bring us peace. Make us whole. Amen.

God of Love,
As we think about all that has changed,
help us to trust that you are always with us.
As we remember those who have died,
help us to trust they are at peace with you.
As we reach out to others with kindness and care,
may hope shine out in every heart and home.
Amen

Prayer by Rt Rev Philip Mounstephen, Bishop of Truro at the Ukranian War Memorial, Mylor, Sunday 27 February 2022

Lord we recognise that you are a refuge and strength and very present help in time of trouble.

We want to pray for all those who in this time need refuge and strength and help.

We pray for people who are cowering in underground car parks and metro stations and people who are taking shelter around that country from this vicious assault.

Indeed we want to pray for members of the Russian armed forces, many of whom are simply following orders, possible against their better judgement.

Lord we pray that many people will find in you a refuge and a strength in time of trouble in that country and further afield as well.

This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.
