Christmas 2024 : Help and Support across Cornwall

| Things You Can Do To Help Others | People & Places Offering a Little Extra Help | Community Hubs |

Each year, people all across Cornwall give the most precious gift of all at Christmas; their time. With communities offering such a diverse range of help and support, we want to provide a single page where you can find out what’s on over the festive period this year.

Below you will find details of various charities and community groups who are seeking help to make sure no-one goes cold, hungry or alone over the festive season. As well as offering support for others, many of these charities and groups provide opportunities for individuals to give some of their time to make a huge difference to the lives of others over the Christmas period.

If you are a charity or community group that would like to share an event or activity in your area, or if you need some more volunteers to help out over the festive period, please send any details to christmas@volunteercornwall.org.uk.

Take a look at the specific opportunities below, but remember there are other ways you can get involved too:

1) Ask your local foodbank if they need help with collections or distribution of food parcels. You can find a list of food banks here:

1) https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/

2) http://cprfoodbank.co.uk/

2) Ask your local Community Hub if they need help with meal preparation or activity sessions for people coming in to get warm. You can find your local Community Hubs on this map

3) Sign up as a Winter Volunteer for Volunteer Cornwall and we will connect you to people in your community who need a helping hand over the festive period. From doing a shop, to collecting medication, to making a telephone call for a chat, to some general help – lots of people struggle over Christmas and you could be the friend they need. Email us at cvcteam@volunteercornwall.org.uk to let us know if you’d be interested in being a winter volunteer.

4) Be a good neighbour and check in on older or vulnerable residents in your street or village. The closure of many services over Christmas means some people may not have their usual contacts and become lonely and isolated. A friendly face having a 10 min chat over a cuppa can make a world of difference.

5) Know someone who is going to be on their own this Christmas? Plate up a Christmas dinner and drop it round – or maybe invite them over to join you for the big day? A simple act of kindness can be life-changing!

People and Places Offering a Little Extra Help

All across Cornwall there are charities and community groups that will be organising special festive events and activities for the local community to access during the Christmas holidays. These will range from Christmas meals, fun games and activities for families, and specialist support for those who need an extra hand.

Below we will be sharing details of any events/activities that have been passed to us, we’ve split them up into East, Mid and West to help you find the people and places in your areas. We will be regularly updating the events and activities on the list right through to December 22nd, adding newly shared information and removing dates that have already passed.
