We’re thrilled to share that today we are launching our new project called ‘Affirming Christianity’.
We believe that the future of the church is affirming of LBGTQ+ people, as well as of other values the Student Christian Movement embodies, and so we want to be preparing for a church beyond the constant debates about these things. ‘Affirming Christianity’ is going to offer a series of small group courses for progressive Christians who want to study faith and grow together from a safe place of shared values. Today we are beginning this journey with our first resource, How To Be A Good Christian Ally. SCM communities and local church groups can use the course to help them talk about allyship and grow in their understanding of it as part of their discipleship. We hope that it will give confidence to those who are affirming in their hearts but unsure how to put that into action, as well as give space for everyone to pray and talk about how to live out the love of God as allies. We are grateful to have the partnership of OneBodyOneFaith on this resource; their track record of activism and support to the LGBTQ+ community is unparalleled and we are thankful for their wisdom.
How to be a good Christian Ally is a three-session course, intentionally simple in design. Each session includes an introduction to principles of allyship, a video, a bible study and a reflective activity. Participants will need a booklet to follow the material and make their own notes, and the videos can be streamed or downloaded to suit the location of the group. The booklets are available to purchase from the SCM website and cost £2.50 each, or 10 for £20. To buy copies please visit our resource page here.
Please do share details of the resource with people in your network. You can read more about it in our press release here, and via our social media channels through the links below. If you would like further information please do get in touch.
